Henry Ford: Genius

Sep 22

I saw a great Henry Ford quote on my buddy’s Facebook profile that made me smile today.

“Stopping advertising to save money is like stopping a clock to save time.”

Every day we hear from small businesses around the country, “When times are tough (like they are now), the first thing I cut back on is advertising.” Wait, uh – what?!?!?

Unless a business is so destitute that they are getting ready to close their doors the next week, there is no better time to advertise than when times are tough. First, rates are cheaper for many traditional marketing venues. Second, your competitors are probably (wrongly) cutting back on their advertising too, a perfect opportunity for your company to take over their business.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a proponent of advertising for the sake of advertising (branding ego overtaking the importance of quantifiable marketing benefits) – but I am a huge proponent of making timely and wise business decisions while opportunities present themselves.

Cant afford a billboard in the middle of town? So what!?!?! Get creative! Marketing and advertising doesn’t always mean that you have to pay a third-party for their service. It’s about finding new ways to tell your story to new audiences (who might care about what you have to say). Get out there!

(P.S. If you need a little help getting your message out there, I happen to know a little company that could help…)
