Why you should care about local business

Nov 08

Rather than re-invent the wheel, I thought I’d just link to a couple of articles and sitesĀ  that I found interesting.

From an Express Milwaukee article titled, The Importance of Buying Local:
“For every $100 spent at a local bookstore or CD store, $45 stayed in the local economy. For every $100 spent at Borders, however, the local economic impact was only $13.”

From a Suite 101 article titled, Supporting The Local Small Business Owner:
“91 percent of small business owners volunteer or provide donations to local causes.”

What are you doing to support small business and your local economy? How often do you walk into a “big-box” store without even thinking of the several local retailers that carry the same product? How much shopping do you do online, when you could just as easily drive downtown or head to the mall? How many local businesses have closed in your community in the last three years? Could you have made a difference?
